THE WINNERS
On 11th of December, 2020, SignalGeneriX announced the winners of the Innovation Challenge at its premises.
Five groups of young people were selected from a total of 34 and were invited to present their technologies and business plan to an evaluation committee. The prize for the winner, 50,000 euros in business incubation and product development services, business housing, materials and cash to turn their idea into a marketable product or service.
The young people presented their work before an evaluation committee, which consisted of the lead scientist for Research and Innovation, Dr. Nikolas Mastrogiannopoulos, the vice president of IDEK and president of Start-up Cyprus, Stavriana Kofteros, the founder and director of the Gravity technology incubator, Dr. Panagiotis Filimis, the director of Map Innovation, Monica Ioannidou Polemitis, the professor of Imperial College and co-founder of SignalGeneriX, Antonis Konstantinidis and the co-founder and director of SignalGeneriX, Dr. Tasos Kounoudes.
The winner is the DoggoTag team
Doggo Tag, is the winning team that has secured a contract with SignalGeneriX worth a total of 50 thousand euros in order to implement the technology in a product. The company proposes an innovative product, which is based on innovative LoRa technologies and the guardian of an animal can monitor the whereabouts of his pet, observe his behaviour, but also his health. The head of Doggo Tag, Andronikos Kasianidis and his team, will have guidance and training from internationally recognized professionals and will be able to have their own access to the international network of customers and partners of SignalGeneriX.
"I feel quite lucky and grateful," said Andronikos Kasianidis, "that I was given the opportunity by SignalGeneriX to highlight my business idea and to introduce to the market the innovative element that Doggo Tag is going to offer. I am very excited for my new start and especially the cooperation with a reputable company like SignalGeneriX ".
As he stated, “through my effort all these years, watching and participating in various start-up competitions, I have gained knowledge and experiences that helped me to set up and develop a complete proposal for my idea. My goal is to implement the Doggo Tag on a global scale, filling the gap in the market. Through this effort I hope to contribute in turn to the development of Cyprus as a geographical business base around the world as well as to help other start-uppers in their new beginning".
In his interview at Philenews, SignalGeneriX co-founder Tasos Kounoudes told: We actively support young scientists.
"We started as a start-up 15 years ago with our know-how, our ideas and a lot of appetite for work, and we have certainly learned a lot through this process. The road to the success of a start-up company faces many challenges and requires a lot of effort, especially in Cyprus, which still lacks the basic infrastructure to support and finance innovative start-up companies that seek to conquer the international market. Celebrating 15 years of success, we want to actively support young scientists with innovative ideas in their infancy, giving them the opportunity to implement their ideas and develop their innovative products and services and market them internationally."
He notes that in addition to the know-how and the necessary guidance, SignalGeneriX will invest the amount of 50,000 euros in the winning team, which it will support for a long time until it can stand alone in the market. "We know," he adds, "how difficult it is for a new innovative company with a high risk of success to have access to finance and know-how, so we want to offer this opportunity that we did not have when we started."
The other teams that participated in the competition, also received cash prizes, 500€ each of the team.
